  1. To produce light, a CFL uses mercury vapour and phosphor while an LED lamp uses semi-conductor material.
  2. The average life span of a CFL is much longer than that of an LED lamp.
  3. A CFL is less energy-efficient as compared to an LED lamp.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct ?
a) 1 only.
b) 2 and 3 only.
c) 1 and 3 only.
d) 1, 2, and 3.

Ans- [C]
Explanation– Statement 1 is correct .CFLs, like all fluorescent lamps, contain mercury  as vapor inside the glass tubing. Most CFLs contain 3–5 mg per bulb, with the bulbs labeled “eco-friendly” containing as little as 1 mg.
Statement 2 is wrong as life of LED bulbs is upto 60-70 thousand hours and of CFL is 20-30 thousand hours
Statement 3 is correct. CFL are very much efficient than as compared to LED bulbs. This is one of the reason that government has started distributing LEDs in subsidised rates to phase out CFLs and bulbs.
